At Watches and Wonders 2025 in Geneva, Panerai will be presenting a tour de force of innovation and mechanical poetry with the Jupiterium, a spectacular planetarium clock that fascinates as much as it impresses.

A tribute to Galileo and the spirit of scientific conquest

Inspired by Galileo’s revolutionary vision, the Jupiterium plunges the observer into the heart of the universe. Here, the Earth is at the center of the sphere, offering a geocentric viewpoint dear to the Italian astronomer. With this masterly work, Panerai celebrates the scientific genius of Galileo, whose discoveries revolutionized our understanding of the cosmos.

Celestial mechanics of dizzying complexity

Behind its sculptural appearance, the Jupiterium hides a concentration of watchmaking innovations:- 1,650 components,
97 jewels,
8 barrels, each 4 meters long (32 meters in total),
40-day power reserve ,
– a perpetual calendar accurate to 9999,
– real-time representation of the trajectories of the Sun, Moon, Jupiter and its four Galilean moons.

Thanks to an ingenious manual winding system and a unilinear calendar display, the Jupiterium offers simultaneous reading of the day, date, month and year, with no need for adjustment until 2099.

Retrograde, star of the astronomical show

The highlight of this creation is the Jupiterium’s retrograde function, which reproduces the apparent “backward” movement of the planets, as observed in the night sky. A patented device tracks the slowing, reversal and resumption of Jupiter’s trajectory, adding a touch of scientific realism rarely achieved in contemporary watchmaking.

Sculptural design, a blend of tradition and innovation

Measuring 75 cm wide by 86 cm high and weighing 110 kg, the Jupiterium combines titanium, aluminum, anti-reflective glass and a painted mahogany base. Its technical elegance is enhanced by the use of Super-LumiNova® on the planets and constellations, guaranteeing optimum visibility even in the dark.

Italy, the birthplace of Panerai and Galileo, is proudly represented at the heart of the central sphere. On the black dial, luminescent indexes and numerals ensure perfect readability, while a linear “40 giorni” indicator is a reminder of the timepiece’s extraordinary autonomy.

Panerai, guardian of tradition and pioneer of the avant-garde

Founded in Florence in 1860, Panerai combines Italian tradition and Swiss excellence in its workshops in Neuchâtel. A long-standing supplier to the Italian Navy, today the brand continues its quest for innovation, as demonstrated by the Jupiterium, a unique masterpiece unveiled in Geneva.

With this planetarium clock, Panerai once again pushes back the boundaries of watchmaking, reminding us that between art, science and technology, exploration has only just begun.
